Happy Little Accidents!

Because some people have asked, I've added a tab showcasing some of my oil paintings - you can find it above imaginitively called ART. I don't claim to be a good artist, but hey! Hope you enjoy them, and here's a taster. Can you tell what it is yet?

Very nice mate. I like the old guy fishing. There's a certain serenity to the whole painting. Although the dude kidnapping the woman on "lover's lane" is a good one. I had to put some kind of "thriller" element on it. :-)

Pretty good, mate.

You make me sick, Hilton! Talented writer, talented artist....I suppose you play an instrument, too!

Seriously - well done!

And, after reading young Mr Barber's comment, how about putting one or more of your pics up and inviting entries for a story they inspire?

(Almost like Cormac's FFF - but with pics instead of words..)

Or has that already been done?

BTW - is the coastal pic a real place or just from your imagination?

Awesome. Stunning. Jealous!

I'm really liking, Sue. "Young" Mr Barber, I'll take that any day of the week. Sorry, Matt. Using you post as a chat room... ;-)

Chat away all you want, I enjoy the banter.

Sue the colourful sunset I used on the blog is a real scene observed along the Solway Coast a couple miles west of Silloth. My nephew is a keen photgrapher and took various shots that I subsequently painted from. On the ART page with the sea and promontory, that's St Bees Head near to Whitehaven.

All the other scenes are from my imagination. I have one that I have done of Hawes Water in the Lakes that I'll post soon. Many of my other paintings have 'disappeared' in one way or another, some given away, some stolen as I mentioned elsewhere. I had a book full of small paintings, all in oil and watercolour and for the life of me can't find them anywhere: they're some of my best. I think the ol' poltergeist has struck again! Things have gone missing in my house, never to be found again and there's only me and my missus at home. Not least was a four foot tall rag doll that sat on a rocking chair in a spare bedroom. 'Sat' being the operative word, because it disappeared too and we've no clue where it went, only noticed it missing one time and it could have been weeks later. Weird with a capital Dubya.

By the way, i apologise for the quality of some of the paintings, they have washed out a bit due to the flash on my camera, so the colours look a little odd. The wolf picture is far more vibrant in real life, as is the fisherman and the scene with the two horses in the countryside. The ice/snow snene with the horses looks much better in the flesh as well. But I'm glad you're all enjoying them.

By the way, Sue. No, unfortunately i can't play an instrument, but I've been known to rattle off a few songs on the karaoke or with my brother's rock'n'roll band in the past.

Don't worry: I won't be posting any of my songs. Although there is one or two of my bro's songs in the video bar on the right if you care to listen.

Matt - I thought that pic looked familiar - is that Criffel (or just a bunch of clouds) on the horizon? And was the picture taken around the Allonby area? Ah - rcealling family hols of yesteryear...

As for the 'young' - Mr Barber - you lot are ALL mere striplings compared to me.....now, where did I park me zimmer-frame...?
;-p

Hi Sue, yeah, between Beckfoot and Mawbray actually, but just a few miles from Allonby. The mountains were wreathed in misty clouds and not too distinct. I did another painting with Criffel in it (in a similar style to this one) but it was snapped up by an admirer.

I've also added one of Wastewater.

erm.....d'you mean Wastwater, Matt?

(I can't imagine you painting a picture of a toilet... :-o)

Author said...

Wastwater it is. Funny how one little 'e' can change everything. D'oh!

It makes it hard for me to take the piss when the paintings are actually good.

Truly great artwork Matt, you've got another genuine talent there.

My uncle's a full-time artist working in watercolour / acrylic etc ( Christopher Jarvis ) and he makes a good living from doing something he loves, which is partly what inspired me to try to write for a living. Loads of his work appears on those Medici greetings cards ( think I've got the company name right ).

I reckon you should throw a gallery exhibition or two of your own!

Thanks for the kind words, Dean. I'm my own worst critic when it comes to my painting (never mind my writing) and don't think I'd have the bottle to do a show of my work.

I did put some in a shop and had one of them shoplifted (so that must have looked good enough!!!) and then the rest disappeared with the guy who owned the shop when he sold up. maybe they'll turn up on Antiques Roadshow one of these days and sell for an enormous price (JOKE)
