Thursday evening found me in Borders Book shop at the Team Valley shopping park at Gateshead in the north-east. I was in the company of Sheila Quigley (Seahills mysteries) and Lee Weeks (The Trafficked), having met them both in Durham earlier.
I wasn't expecting to sell any books because - well, quite frankly, I didn't have any to sell yet - however it was a great night still. OK, so the crowds didn't turn up in force, but those that did come were interested in what we had to say and asked enough questions to fill an hour and a half. Special hello to Tony and Tula, writers in their own right, who I really enjoyed meeting.
Thanks also to the team at Borders for making me welcome (and for the coffee that hit just the right spot).

Hi, Matt,
So, no longer a panel virgin, huh? Glad to hear it's rolling in earnest and wishing you the best.
Now all you need is a stalker...
:))
I can't help on the stalker front (well, I hope not - check with Matt!), but one thing's for sure: when the first book hits the shelves the interest will rocket!
Thanks for the comments, chaps. Hopefully no stalkers but you never can tell who is out there hiding behind the bookshelves. By the way, Adrian, Sheila Quigley told me to say Hi to you and your good lady: she said you're both lovely people. But I knew that already.
And we think very highly of her, too. A genuine lady.
Any further launch details, by the way?
Absolutely nothing to do with books, but I've just climbed a tree (for the first time in YEARS) to put up a bird box. Was it like riding a bike? Did it all come back naturally? Did it seem much higher off the ground than I'd thought?
No. Not quite. And hell, yes!
Still, it seemed to amuse the neighbours, although I'm not sure that shouting 'jump' was quite called for...
I'm trying to sort a launch 'proper' in Carlisle for some time around the publication date. However, I'm in London on 14th May, then Bristol at Crimefest afterwards. The following two weeks I'm off doing stock signing in various cities, but none of these are a 'launch' as such. I'm also doing a double-whammy appearance with Sophie Hannah at Carlisle library on Thursday 4th June 2009 as part of their Midsummer Murders season. Otherwise, nothing offical has been planned yet. I'll keep everyone posted via this blog as things start happening.
Sounds like things are already happening, Matt! Good on yer.
